Greymouth & West Coast

The TranzAlpine's western terminus is the launch-pad for exploring the incredible landscapes and industrial history of the West Coast.

Staying in Greymouth

Staying overnight in Greymouth is a great way to transform your TranzAlpine journey into an amazing short break. Check out our Package offerings and add to your TranzAlpine experience. Alternatively, from Greymouth you can hire a car for a day or two and explore the West Coast.

By staying overnight, you also have a good chance of a change of weather for the return journey. Low cloud between Otira and Greymouth is eerily beautiful, while sunny weather is spectacular - so it's nice to experience both. In winter, you also double your chances of a snow shower, which transforms the journey into a fairytale ride!

Greymouth has a number of hotels and hostels which can be viewed on the Greymouth i-Site Visitor Centre website.
