Departing Wellington aboard an Interislander ferry, you'll sit back in the comfy sofas of the Plus Lounge where you can enjoy a complimentary cooked or continental breakfast. As you cruise through the Sounds in the late morning, you can even enjoy a taste of Marlborough, with complimentary wine or beer.
After arriving in Picton, you will then sail north up the Queen Charlotte Sound to your final destination - the incredible Furneaux Lodge. There, nestled amongst the bush-clad hills on the edge of the water sits Furneaux Lodge, where you will relax and unwind in pure isolation.
Day 1: Morning
Departing from Wellington Interislander Terminal, the first leg of your great escape is a voyage of discovery. While cruising through Wellington Harbour, you'll take in the famous sights of Oriental Parade, Matui Island, Eastbourne and the historic Pencarrow lighthouses.
Heading out onto Cook Strait, you'll be travelling north to where two seas meet. On a clear day, you'll see Cloudy Bay and Blenheim on the far shore with the Kaikoura mountains rising in the distance. On the Wellington side, you'll see the wild hills of Cape Terawhiti.
The hour-long passage through Cook Strait is an ideal opportunity to enjoy our Plus Lounge, with comfy sofas and complimentary food. During the morning sailing, both cooked and continental breakfasts are available with juices, teas, and coffees. This is followed by Morning Tea, with cakes, pastries, and a hot and cold buffet.
The final chapter of an incredible voyage is spent sailing through the sheltered the Marlborough Sounds - a safe-haven for marine and birdlife. As you cruise through the Tory Channel, there is an excellent chance of seeing dolphins and several native bird species, along with the awe-inspiring scenery of Marlborough.
After a sharp turn around Dieffenbach Point, you will be on the broad Queen Charlotte Sound (known locally as Totaranui) and soon the twinkling town of Picton will be visible in the distance.
Day 1: Afternoon
After arriving in Picton, you will transfer by Water Taxi across Queen Charlotte Sound to Furneaux Lodge.
Once checked in, you will have time before dinner to explore the tranquil grounds away from the hustle and bustle of city life. With limited internet and mobile phone reception, your stay is assured to be relaxing and stress-free. If you want to explore, you have free access to mountain bikes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. There is so much to do you will be wishing you could stay longer.
If you feel like just chilling out, why not pop into the cafe art gallery and sculpture trail.
In the evening, you'll enjoy a spectacular dinner, taking in the breath-taking views while dining in the lodge restaurant.
Day two
There is no schedule and no need to set your alarm. Simply get up in your own time and head to the lodge restaurant for a relaxing breakfast overlooking the inlet and the native bush.
Then relax in the stunning grounds or at the water's edge. Furneaux Lodge borders onto the well-known Queen Charlotte Track where it’s easy to stroll along a section of this great walk, or complete a full section of the track to Punga Cove and catch-up a ferry back to Furneaux Lodge later in the day.
Don’t forget to check out the huge ancient Rimu tree (about a 10-minute walk) from the lodge and at night there are Glow-worms to visit.
Dinner is served in the lodge restaurant again tonight.
Day three
Start the day with a long, relaxing, breakfast at the lodge. Then savour the serenity of the Sounds one last time before our Water Taxi arrives and transfers you back to Picton for your return Interislander journey.
**Additional nights can be added at Furneaux Lodge. Accommodation can also be added pre and post your package journey, ask our Packages Consultant when booking this package**
