The World of WearableArt (WOW) Awards Show is New Zealand’s single largest theatrical production.
Uniquely inspiring and creative, the critically acclaimed World of WearableArt® Awards Show fuses together world-class dance and theatrical performance, stirring music that takes you through a magical soundscape, visual projections and larger than life backdrops. Described by Coveteur as 'part Cirque du Soleil, part Broadway play, and part avant-garde couture show', you will be captivated the moment you step through the door.
This year, expect to journey through a world inspired by the Elizabethan Era, find yourself mesmerised as the stage explodes in a visual symphony of colour in the Monochromatic world, and be amazed as we see the human body used as an architectural canvas in the Architecture Section.
You’ll venture beyond your wildest imagination and discover the unorthodox, radical and experimental world of Avant-garde, the boundaryless Open section and the world of Aotearoa that celebrates who we are as people and what makes us proud to be New Zealanders. This year, escape to another world and lose yourself in the breathtaking creativity of the 2021 WOW Show.
So, book your World of WearableArt Awards Show package with us now, and lose yourself in the unmissable 2021 Show.
Departing Christchurch Railway Station, your journey to Wellington begins in the backyards of the Garden City, as you travel through Christchurch suburbs and across the northern edge of the Canterbury Plains.
Drifting through rural townships and remote farmsteads of north Canterbury, the journey meets the sea in spectacular style, bobbing in and out of tunnels and cruising along the cliffs.
Soaring over the Okarahia Viaduct with the Pacific Ocean lapping 21m below, you'll soon be plunging into the darkness of the 975m long Amuri Tunnel. When you emerge, you'll be swinging around wild bays, sweeping across isolated beaches, and squeezing between waves and white cliffs, where the weathered rails are the only sign of humankind.
Upon entering the Kaikoura Plains, the Seaward Kaikoura mountains will dominate the western skyline, but as they cascade into the sea north of Kaikōura, the Coastal Pacific once again squeezes along the rocky Pacific shoreline. Be sure to look out for seals lounging on boulders at Ohau as you pass through this area dramatically affected by the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake.
Heading inland past the colourful salt works at Lake Grassmere, you'll soon be surrounded by the vineyards of the Awatere Valley. On your descent into Blenheim, the sea will once again be visible. This time it will be the Cook Strait stretching away to the east, and on a clear day, you will be able to see your final destination, Wellington.
After a short break in the picturesque seaside town of Picton, it will be time to step aboard our Interislander ferry and take your seat in our Plus Lounge, where you'll be served complimentary food and drink while you cruise to Wellington. Internationally recognised as one of the most beautiful ferries journeys in the world, the meandering route that heads north, east, south and west, produces a wild mixture of New Zealand's celebrated scenery.
Considered by many as a highlight of New Zealand, the Interislander journey begins by sailing up the broad Queen Charlotte Sound and into the famously fjordlike Tory Channel. With no roads and barely a handful of homes dotting the shoreline, there are few places that feel further from civilisation than this.
Squeezing through the narrow Tory Channel entrance and onto the Cook Strait, your journey continues by crossing the meeting point of two seas - the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean. With the South Island disappearing behind you, this rugged and exposed stretch of water brings the sensation of sailing on the open sea, even though you are surrounded by land. Looking west, you'll see the serene expanse of Cloudy Bay and the Wairau Valley with the Kaikoura Mountains rising imperiously above. Looking east, you'll see the untamed coastline of Terawhiti, as rough and wild as it was when the first intrepid explorers arrived.
Two lighthouses on Pencarrow Head will then guide you into Wellington Harbour. As you curve around the Miramar Peninsula, the city skyline will slowly reveal itself. Soon it will be time to step ashore in our sparkling capital city of Wellington, where your journey will continue at the World of WearableArt Awards Show.
