Your Taste of Blenheim Itinerary
Day 1 Morning: Coastal Pacific train
Your relaxing escape to the vineyards of Blenheim begins aboard our Coastal Pacific train. While you weave through lonely rural communities and remote farmsteads of North Canterbury, we'll serve you our Coastal Pacific Morning Tea.
Soon you'll meet the Pacific Ocean in all its glory. Clinging to cliffs, sweeping around secret beaches, ducking through tunnels as the mountains descend into the sea, then cruising along never-ending golden coastline as the Coastal Pacifict enters Marlborough.
Saving the best until last, a majestic view opens up just before descending into Blenheim. With Cook Strait stretching away beneath you, the pleasing hills of the Marlborough Sounds and the distant North Island line the horizon.
Upon arrival in Blenheim, you'll meet with your tour guide and get straight to tasting the flavours of Marlborough's world-famous wines.
Day 1 Afternoon: Marlborough Wine Tour
Starting at the heart of New Zealand's premium wine region, your day of exploration continues with a journey into the finest flavours of Marlborough.
Surrounded by world-famous vineyards and stylish boutique wineries, Blenheim is spoilt for choice when it comes to wine. Although renowned for fruity Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the alluvial valleys of Awatere and Wairau are also home to incredible Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer. On the experimental side, you'll also find superb Grüner Veltliner, Viognier, Arneis, and Tempranillo. And if you are looking to celebrate, then Marlborough's méthode traditionelle is a recognised challenger to the traditional Champagne market.
Your tour guide will provide recommendations and help build your route. Each venue will share its best wines, along with their stories, and answer any winemaking questions you might have.
Warning: as you sip your way through Marlborough's finest wines, you might fall in love with a stranger that you'll want to take home. Most venues will help you with this by offering wine sales including delivery.
Day 2 Morning: Investigate Marlborough
Spend your morning investigating Blenheim and Marlborough. With cafés and shopping on hand, you don't need to venture far. However, there are also plenty of attractions in the area that you can explore.
Particularly noteworthy is the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, where Peter Jackson's 'Great War' collection joins together with a wonderful collection of WWI & WWII aeroplanes in dramatic Jackson style, with a little help from Weta Workshops. Or, if you want to freshen the senses with a nature walk, then Pollard Park is the perfect remedy.
You will also have time for another wine tasting and lunch before the afternoon Coastal Pacific Christchurch train arrives. And nowhere is more convenient than the 'Wine Station', which offers you one last chance to enjoy the local flavours while waiting for the train.
Day 2 Afternoon: Coastal Pacific return journey
Board our Coastal Pacific train in the early afternoon for a relaxing voyage back through the vineyards of Marlborough to Christchurch. After two days exploring the best New Zealand wines, all you need to do now is sit back and enjoy your Coastal Pacific Afternoon Tea and Dinner while stunning views of the Pacific coast and Canterbury countryside glide by.
And with our onboard licensed cafe serving a great selection of local wines, you can also raise a glass and toast the occasion by saying "Cheers" to an amazing couple of days.
