Viewing carriage safety upgrade

Since closing the Open-Air Viewing Carriages in March, we have been investigating ways to develop a safe outdoor experience where no one can place themselves or others at harm.

We are now working on a short-term solution, adapting the existing Open-Air Viewing Carriages with additional protection. We are hopeful that a prototype will be ready for testing in the next 4 weeks.

If our safety tests prove successful, we should be able to provide a timeframe for the carriages’ reintroduction.

We will provide a further update at the end of May when testing will hopefully have been completed.

Temporary Closure of Outdoor Viewing Carriages
2 months ago

Following an increased number of potential safety incidents, we've had to temporarily close our outdoor viewing carriages until a safety solution is found.

In recent months, we've seen more passengers placing themselves in danger by leaning out of the viewing carriage to take photographs.  The safety of our passengers is hugely important and despite a number of safety signs and announcements on board our trains, we're still seeing this happen and can't risk the possibility of an incident.

We're sorry that our passengers won't be able to use these outdoor carriages while a solution is found. Our trains will continue to tow the outdoor viewing carriages as the train’s generator which powers train systems such as lighting, refrigeration and air-conditioning is carried on there.

We'll share further updates as they become available.
