Wellington moves to COVID-19 Alert Level 2

With Wellington moving to COVID-19 Alert Level 2, and in line with our commitment to protecting our passengers and crew, all passengers and crew must wear face-coverings on the Northern Explorer.

This requirement is mandatory at all times whilst aboard, unless you are under 12 years old, or have a health reason for not wearing one.

Face coverings can be removed to eat, drink, or take medication. Otherwise, you must remain covered until you exit the train. Please dispose of your face covering safely and responsibly - do not leave used face coverings on your seat.

If you require a face covering, please ask one of the onboard team.

We also recommend washing and drying your hands regularly and leaving plenty of space between you and other guests - particularly whilst in the Scenic Café and Open-air Viewing carriage.

We also encourage you to track your journey using the QR codes provided onboard and at stations - or record it manually. Include your carriage letter and seat number in your record.

Our Northern Explorer service has previously run with mandatory face-covering and passenger feedback was good.

If you are booked to travel in the next 7 days and would like to defer your Northern Explorer booking to a later date, then please contact us online.

Summer bookings opening soon

Northern Explorer services are currently only available to book until the 16th October 2021.

However, we are currently uploading a new schedule that will take us into 2022. Unfortunately, whilst we undertake this upload, it will appear that services are available to book beyond 16th October 2021 - which they are not. 

We are very sorry for this confusion, and we hope to have summer bookings open very soon. 

If you are looking to book Northern Explorer services beyond 16 October 2021, then please return to our website in July when booking will definitely be open.
