Marlborough Sounds

Sunny Marlborough has something for everyone, whether you’re after adventure or indulgence, so get inspired by some of our favourite, most memorable experiences.

From the 70km Queen Charlotte track, to some of NZ’s sunniest beaches, to the spectacular beauty of the Sounds, you’ll find that mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, 4WD treks, climbing and kite surfing are just the start.

Nature and Wildlife

Go on high country horse trek or hit the water to watch fur seals, penguins and dolphins. With three national parks in the region – including the stunning Abel Tasman – you will find the stunning diversity of New Zealand's flora and fauna is right on your doorstep.

On the water

Did you know that the Marlborough Sounds makes up 20% of the New Zealand Coastline? Sail in five-star comfort, explore hidden coves in a kayak, or spend the day fishing. It doesn’t stop at the coast – the region’s rivers offer their own unique beauty, not to mention delicious trout!

Eating and Drinking

Marlborough is one the world’s most acclaimed wine regions and world-famous vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. The region also boasts a thriving craft brewery scene, and a vast array of sun-kissed local fruit, farm-fresh vegetables and some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste.

Arts and Culture

Home to a thriving local arts and craft scene, the area boasts over 300 working artists in Nelson alone, including a myriad of local sculptors, glass blowers, painters and craftspeople. Or head to the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, a visual feast from Peter Jackson that includes his own collection.

Everything you’d expect, and some things you wouldn’t! When it comes to finding somewhere to stay, you are spoilt for choice. With water-access only hideaways in hidden coves, luxury lodges, surfside beach houses, boutique hotels downtown and the ever-present bach, the hardest thing will be choosing where to stay!
