Down the Hatch
Our Garage Project presents Burger Wellington entry this year is a mouthwatering prospect
Garage Project presents
13 - 31 August 2021
You don't need to be a beef-loving burger aficionado to know that the annual month-long Visa Wellington On a Plate food festival is the time to eat burgers.
Yes, between 13-31 August 2021, the Garage Project presents Burger Wellington competition hits the capital's streets. Restaurant, bars, pubs (and ferries!), will put their culinary skills on show by transforming the humble burger into a festive feast of creativity.
And, as Official Ferry Partner of Visa Wellington On a Plate, we'll be joining in with the foodie festivities with a burger of our own!
"Down the Hatch"
Avoiding the temptation to make a dolphin burger was tricky. But we have, for obvious reasons, chosen instead to take inspiration from the wider Wellington region.
The result is very a hearty Wairarapa beef burger:
Down the Hatch
A delicious hunk of juicy beef, oozing with smoked aged cheddar and dabbled with gherkin mayonnaise, with a squeeze of spicy tomato sauce and a crunch of green endive and tangy red onion, finished with sliced tomato and cuddled within a Brezelmania brioche bun.
On the side, we have curly seaside fries dusted with Shepherd's special Umami seasoning.
This behemoth burger could feed a whale, so you'll probably need something to wash it down. And we've found the perfect match.
Match the Hatch
A prerequisite for any great meal is a great beer. This is why Wellington's awesome brewery, Garage Project, sponsors the event. Thoughtfully, they also brew some special event beers.
So alongside critiquing concept burgers, our tasting team has been busy sampling Garage Project beers to find the perfect match for Down the Hatch.
And what could be better than a cool Garage Project Arvo XPA? Light on bitterness with plenty of tropical fruit flavour and aroma, the ultimate refreshing ale.
